The Center City Block Party was a summer celebration that brought thousands to the downtown area.

The Block Party wasn't just a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the community. It was also a big fundraiser for Center City Amarillo.

Amarillo has decided to put the Block Party on hold as they plan a new festival to take its place.

According to news sources, Center City Amarillo is hoping to start an event that is more focused on the arts. This new approach will hopefully help Amarillo get approval on an official cultural district.

The new event will be called "Create!" and take place in and around the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts and the Amarillo Public Library. There will be reading circles, arts and crafts, culinary arts, and more. This will be a little different from the Block Party, which was more of a cookout with beer and music.

Create! will be on August 20th, 2016.
