The “Name the Team” Sweepstakes is underway for Amarillo Professional Baseball.

The President and General Manager of Amarillo Profession Baseball, Tony Ensor, made the announcement at a news conference Wednesday at the Civic Center. He said this is a critical part of a successful franchise.

"This is an exciting time for our Amarillo community and the team," said Ensor. "I cannot think of a better way to welcome in a new era of Amarillo Professional Baseball than by having our residents and future fans help name the team. We are asking the community to join us in this rare opportunity to create an identity that will represent the heart and soul of Amarillo, the Panhandle and Minor League Baseball."

Fans can enter the contest by going to the team's website at AmarilloProBaseball.com and clicking on the "Name The Team" Sweepstakes graphic.

The sweepstakes will run until May 4, giving fans two weeks to submit their most creative ideas. Fans are encouraged to suggest a local name, along with an explanation of why they feel their suggestion perfectly embodies "Amarillo". Judging will be based on originality, creativity, uniqueness, regional relevance, and appropriateness for audience.

The fan whose submission leads to the team's new name will receive the ultimate VIP Baseball Package - Four Season Tickets for the Inaugural 2019 season, a personalized Team Jersey and an opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch during the 2019 season.

Following two weeks of name entries, the top five to seven names selected will be listed on the website (AmarilloProBaseball.com) for fan voting, which will take place in mid-to-late May. The winning name will be revealed at a press conference this fall. All finalists will also be invited to the unveiling event.

The multi-purpose event venue where the team will play is expected to open in April 2019, marking the return of baseball to Amarillo in 37 years.
