Amarillo Police were in pursuit of a vehicle yesterday evening.  After a short chase, police terminated their efforts to apprehend the individual in the name of public safety.

APD responded to a call from the 45th & Bell Amarillo National Bank.  A man was attempting to cash a check that was stolen from a car in a burglary earlier in the day.

Police arrived at the bank and the suspect fled leading police on a chase through traffic on Bell but lost the suspect near Hillside and Bell.

The vehicle was spotted by other officers at 58th & Cornell and the chase continued.  The suspect eventually drove through the construction zone on 58th street.

The police then terminated the chase for a second and final time.  It was decided that due to the time of day and the amount of traffic it wasn't worth risking the public's safety to continue the pursuit.

Police believe they have enough information on the individual to find him.  Police are looking for a yellow Nissan Xterra.  The suspect is a white male, mid 40's, about 5ft. 11in and 180lbs.
