Amarillo Police Release 2014 Crime Statistics

While 2014 wasn't such a great year for road construction in Amarillo, overall crime was lower in the city compared to 2013.

The report shows Part 1 crimes like aggravated assault and homicide were down.  Overall crime was down 4.4% overall.  Rapes, burglaries and homicides were all down substantially.  Aggravated assaults were also down but not as dramatically.

Some crimes did see an increase.  Robbery and theft were up with the most dramatic rise in auto thefts.  785 in 2013 up to 837 last year.

The drop wasn't attributed to any one reason however online crime reporting and the PACE unit were cited as contributing to the drop.
