In the aftermath of the Amarillo Police officer amidst allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman while on duty has the police department considering body cameras for the force.

A woman filed a report with the police department on Monday claiming former officer Micah Meurer sexually assaulted her while on duty.  While police won't discuss what is an ongoing investigation the subject of body cameras on police officers has been raised.

The cost of outfitting the entire force is cost prohibitive coupled with the fact an infrastructure is needed to store and make available  all the video capture.  Such video has to be kept on file for a time as potential evidence.

Currently all APD cruisers have dash cams and officers all wear microphone.

Research will continue with a focus on how to fund the effort.
