Last night the Amarillo City Council took the next step in filling the empty City Manager position.

The public portion of the meeting last night ended quickly and the Council moved to a private executive session.  During that meeting the council voted on five finalists for the City Manager job and decided on a permanent replacement.  Due to the executive sessions being confidential the members are not able to name whom they recommend for the position.

According to Mayor Paul Harpole there could be a press release as early as today or could be as long as a few days before the finalist is announced.  It is expected that the council will hold a public vote next Tuesday to officially award the job.

Last night's decision followed two days of interviews.  On Monday the council met one-on-one for around an hour with each of the five finalists.  There was also a public meet and greet Monday evening.  Tuesday group interviews were held.
