Amarillo ISD students will not be enjoying a three day weekend for Memorial day this year.

Some local parents are upset school will be open on Memorial Day but there isn't much they can do about it.  AISD needs to be in session to make up for a snow day taken earlier in the school year.

Historically this has happened before in the district.  The snow days students got off were in February when Amarillo was hit by a blizzard.  The state requires schools to begin the 4th Monday in August.  That date has fallen later the month the last two years and has helped put the squeeze on available days for holidays.  Factor in the snow days taken for the blizzard and it all equals school on Memorial Day for Amarillo's school children.

The good news?  Friday is a half day for the students.
