Last night around 11:25pm there was an accident with a fatality on I-27.

A tow truck driver, 28-year-old KC Cantu of Amarillo was driving his truck north on I-27 and was around two miles north of Canyon.  Cantu activated his emergency lights and pulled onto the shoulder of the outside lane.  He then got out of the tow truck to check a vehicle he was towing.

According to officials that's when 22-year-old Jose Hernandez collided with Cantu's tow truck.  Cantu was pronounced dead at the scene by  the Randall County Justice of the Peace.

The authorities determined Hernandez had been drinking.  After a DWI investigation Hernandez was arrested and booked into Randall County Jail on intoxicated manslaughter charges.

I-27 was closed for around 5 hours for the investigation and to clear debris.  Traffic was diverted onto the access road south of the accident scene.

Road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
