Several cases of West Nile has been reported around the panhandle.

Experts say West Nile virus is mostly contracted from infected mosquitoes.  Randall County has four confirmed cases, Potter has five. Although most people will not realize they have contracted the virus.

There is no vaccine of treatment for West Nile.  The best way to protect yourself is to avoid dawn and dusk hours, wear heavy clothing and use a repellent that contains DEET.

Thankfully the cold weather will soon kill off the mosquitoes in our area and lessen everyone's risk.
