WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden is promoting a Democratic Party effort to expand voter access to the ballot box.

In an online video released Monday by the Democratic National Committee, Biden urges Americans to fight "voter suppression efforts nationwide" since the Supreme Court's decision last year to restrict the Voting Rights Act. He said at least 11 states have introduced legislation requiring photo ID at polls or strengthen existing voter ID laws.

Democrats and Republicans have long debated such laws. Republicans argue they protect the integrity of the vote while Democrats say they are designed to restrict turnout.

Biden regularly decries the voter ID efforts. The video encourages viewers to sign up at the DNC website to fight the laws.
