Venom to Start 2018 Season at Home

The Champions Indoor Football League schedule for 2018 has been released.Amarillo Venom

There will be a total of 11 teams in the league split into two conferences.  The Amarillo Venom will play in the Southern Conference along with Texas, Wichita, Duke City and Dallas.  The Northern Conference will consist of Sioux City, Omaha, Salina, Bismarck, Kansas City and Quad Cities.

The Venom will play the first two games of the season at home, on March 17th against Dallas and March 24th against Texas. That will be followed by three straight on the road before returning home on April 21st against Duke City.  The team’s final home game of the regular season will June 2nd against Quad Cities with the last game on the road at Texas.

– In high school volleyball last night, Randall defeated Canyon 3-sets to 1 to improve to 10-0 and become the first team to clinch a playoff berth.

Amarillo High is still just one game back of Randall in the 3-5A standings after the Lady Sandies win over Hereford in four sets. Amarillo High and Randall collide on Tuesday of next week.

Also last night Caprock edged Palo Duro in five sets. #1 ranked 4A team Bushland swept Dalhart to clinch a playoff berth. Highland Park also punched its playoff ticket with a sweep of River Road.

– The West Texas A&M volleyball team won at UTPB, sweeping the Falcons 3-games to none. The Lady Buffs move to 5-4 in the Lone Star Conference.

 – WT freshman outside hitter Erin Clark has been named the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.  Clark led the way in wins over Dallas Baptist and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The freshman outside hitter registered 35 kill with only nine attack errors to go along with five service aces, 20 digs and four block assists.

– NFL owners will meet next week to consider changes to a game manual that says players “should” stand during the national anthem.

Commissioner Roger Goodell told club executives Tuesday in a memo obtained by The Associated Press that the anthem issue is dividing the league from its fans. He said the NFL needs “to move past this controversy.”

NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said the guidance will be “front and center on the agenda” when owners meet in New York next Tuesday and Wednesday.

– Game four of the National League Divisional playoff between the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals was postponed by rain yesterday in Chicago.  The teams will attempt to play this afternoon.

– Also, deciding game five of the ALDS between the Indians and the Yankees is set for tonight in Cleveland.
