A man was killed, an bridge was left engulfed in flames, and I-40 was closed for a short time Monday.

Around 9:30 yesterday morning Arnold Delarosa, 48, of Mission, Texas was traveling east along I-40 when his truck and trailer left the roadway, crashed through a guardrail,  fell off the bridge, and finally caught fire underneath the bridge near Mile Marker 57.

Delarosa was carrying a load of tires.  The entire rig from cab to trailer were engulfed.

Both the eastbound and westbound lanes on I-40 were closed while authorities from multiple agencies tried to piece together what happened.

The bridge is now scheduled for an inspection of the damage to determine if the high heat caused the bridge to be unsafe or if the damage is largely cosmetic.
