Once again last Saturday I got to assume my favorite duty.  That duty is bringing High Plains buyers and sellers together.

We call it The Erwin Pawn Trade-A-Thon and it isn't about me, the news of the day, and we don't try to convenience you which candidate you should cast your ballot for.  Nope, this show is all about you and satisfying your needs.

Beginning at 9am on Saturday's we open the phone lines and the airwaves while inviting you to call in.  It's a whole radio station at your disposal to assist you in selling the items you no longer need for the cash you do.

It's free to participate and you can list pretty much anything you want besides guns and ammunition, that's what Erwin Pawn is for!

We've also got something new for this weekly recap of the show.  Right before the show and again at 10 and 11 we bring you Porky's Perspective.  It's stories ripped from the headlines interpreted by a 20-something native son who's attended Amarillo College.  In all honest, we're trying to amuse more than inform.  Starting with this week's Trade-A-Thon recap post, we'll be including Porky's Perspective.  If you missed it, you can catch up.  If you liked it, you can share it, and if you loved it, you can listen again.  There are some comparability issues and we'll address those below.

THE BIG QUESTION

We ask all our callers a poll question before they give their items.  We are trying to get a lot accomplished with our poll question.  Primarily it provides a running theme to tie the calls together.  It's helps us get to know you a little better.  And depending on the subject it injects humor and thought into the show.

It was Kentucky Derby weekend and on this weekend for the nearly 10 years we've been doing Trade-A-Thon we usually ask if you will be watching and which horse you thought would win.  We'd tabulate those votes to predict a winner.

Will you be watching the Kentucky Derby and if so who will win?

No 19

Yes 6

With the overwhelming number of calls we had that voted they didn't care we decided to forgo making a winner prediction as you wouldn't care about that anyway.

RULE #6

At the beginning of the show and the start of the other two hours, I bring you the official rule of conduct on the show.  It helps remind the regulars what's expected and helps bring the new people up to speed.

There are five regular rules of the program that never change.  And then there is Rule #6 which changes every week.  Sometimes it is inspired by something that happened to me over the previous week and sometimes it is inspired by something out of the headlines.

I was watching the news and they were covering one of the more violent Donald Trump campaign rallies.  It was a tense affair with supporters of various candidates got into verbal altercations and in some cases physical ones.

It started to freak me out a little.  It; frightens me we have people who think violence is perfectly acceptable in a country that should stand proud of it's ability to peacefully transition power.. But some of these goons and thugs most certainly are voters or they wouldn't be at the rally.  Or are they?

Rule #6 You don't need to be a registered voter to attend and make an ass of yourself at a Presidential campaign rally.

PORKY'S PERSPECTIVE

Right before we start the show we bring you Porky's Perspective.  It's a look at the latest news in our area as interpreted by a 20-something Amarillo College attendee who was born and bred in Amarillo.  Porky also serves as call screener during the show.

Unfortunately we are having some compatibility issues with getting the audio posted. Firefox users should have no problem playing the feature in the browser.  Chrome users will have to download the track and play using their favorite music player.  IE, Edge, and all mobile devices do not see the file and as such people viewing this page via those browsers will either have to choose to miss out or log on with Firefox or Chrome.  We've got the IT department looking into this and hope to have the feature available for all platforms soon.
