The Erwin Pawn Trade-A-Thon Getting Ready For The 4th

We spent Saturday bringing buyers and sellers together once again on The Erwin Pawn Trade-A-Thon.

It's want ads on the radio and you're invited to listen and call every Saturday from 9-Noon.  It's want ads without the paper and no internet connection or registration is required.

THE BIG QUESTION

We ask all our callers a poll question during their call.  It provides a running theme that ties together all our calls. Usually it's a fun out-of-the blue question.  This week we were getting ready for The 4th and were curious about your celebration.

With Amarillo having fireworks on Saturday the 1st, Lake Meredith having theirs on Monday the 1st and Canyon shooting off on Tuesday the 4th there are plenty of chances to catch a display.

It got us to wondering when you thought we should celebrate the 4th.

Celebrate the 4th on the 1st or the 4th?

A very rare unanimous vote on The Erwin Pawn Trade-A-Thon.  At least with our callers, celebrating on any other day just doesn't get it.

RULE #6

Along with the regular rules of the program that we recite at the beginning of each hour, I always bring you a special Rule #6 that changes every week.  It is usually inspired by something that happened to me over the previous week.

On Tuesday I was at the store buying groceries and it was a massive load.  I was almost two hours shopping and was getting pretty impatient to get out of there and all I had left to do was checkout.

All the lines were stacked and packed.  I got in a line and waited.  And waited.  It was moving pretty slowly.  That's when I noticed the cashier was having a conversation with each customer like they were old friends.  She was going pretty slow.

The next customer seemed to want to yack more to her than she did with him and she wanted to talk.  Again a slow checkout.

A busy checkout line is not the place to get to know each other.  It's a place to respect everyone's time and to move along as promptly as possible.  Not to be rude and let's be honest.  You and the cashier are not going to be life long friends, why take up my time getting to know each other?

Rule #6 The checkout line it not a place to get to know someone.
