Yesterday the acting Director of Animal Control in Amarillo addressed the Animal Control Board at it's monthly meeting.

Scott McDonald addressed the board and detailed changes in procedures at the department.  McDonald mainly discussed changes to how the department intakes animals.

McDonald discussed how the department tries to return recovered animals to their owner before taking them to Animal Control.  All animals that end up at the shelter now undergo microchip scanning to see if an owner can be contacted.  They also take a photo of the animal, weigh it, tag it with a computer print out band that lists the animal's weight, description, gender and date and location of where the animal was picked up.

Animal Control Director Mike McGee and Assistant Director Shannon Barlow are both on administrative leave while a Randall County Grand Jury continues to investigate the case against them.
