According the Sugar Land Police Department, Charles L. Wood, 49, of Louisiana, is a self-described professional bank robber who will be charged with crimes in Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Utah, Colorado and possibly Oklahoma.

Wood entered the Compass BBVA Bank, 14121 Southwest Freeway, on Sept. 14, at 4:45 p.m. Wood displayed what appeared to be a weapon and demanded money. He fled with just over $5,000 in cash.

Bank employees quickly provided SLPD with a vehicle description, and Sgt. Matt Levan, an investigations supervisor working a traffic assignment, located Wood a short time later traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 59. Sgt. Levan and other officers chased Wood to the 3900 block Bellaire near Stella Link in Houston, where he was finally arrested.

Wood was later transported to the Fort Bend County Jail, where bail was set at $100,000. Wood’s confession to Woods Cross Police Department detectives resulted in a warrant for his arrest in Utah. His bail was set at $500,000 for that case.

Wood has a lengthy criminal history in Louisiana and Texas including charges for public intoxication, criminal damage to property, driving while intoxicated, stalking, unlawful carrying of a weapon, violation of a protective order, interference with child custody and burglary of a habitation.

The Sugar Land PD has released the video of the chase, at times taking officers along the left shoulder of one of Houston’s most congested freeways, Interstate 610.

You can see the entire chase unfold in the video above.
