Can you possibly have a 'Star Wars' film without John Williams' joyous music accompanying the action? Seems hard to even consider. And if you ask Williams himself, he appears to think the same thing. Read Williams' thoughts on his role in the 'Star Wars' universe going forward after the break.

While he doesn't come right out and say he's attached to 'Episode 7', or any of the other handful of 'Star Wars' movies in development, Williams recently spoke at a concert where he shared some encouraging words about working on the new film(s). (Thanks to the  John Williams Fan Network for nabbing the quotes.)

We’re about to play Star Wars [audience interrupts with cheers] and each time we play it, I’m reminded of the first time we played it decades ago.  Neither I, nor George, nor anyone else involved thought this would go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I’d have to revisit the themes…and years later another trilogy.  Now we’re hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016…so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George…

Obviously, "George" isn't in control of the new 'Star Wars' films; Disney, J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy are. That said, it would boggle the mind if Abrams doesn't include Williams, whose work on the original and prequel trilogies is beloved by film fanatics everywhere.

And while he's as reverential to the 'Star Wars' flicks as anyone, Abrams often uses Michael Giacchino for his projects (one can certainly hear Williams' influence on Giacchino from time to time).  Perhaps both men will work on 'Episode 7'? Time will tell.

What do you think - would you like John Williams to return for more 'Star Wars' tunes, or is it time for him to pass the torch?
