Smoke Detector Key In Saving Amarillo Family From Duplex Fire
The Amarillo fire department was called early this morning to a structure fire on the 800 block of South Parker.
The call for help came in at 3:05 this morning and firefighters were on the scene four minutes later. The structure was a duplex.
When they arrived officials found the fire contained to a hallway. An investigation revealed the fire was caused by blankets and a rug covering a floor furnace that was in use.
The furnace and the halls sustained heavy damage. Damages are estimated at around $4,000. There were no injuries reported.
The fire department also noted the smoke alarms in the building worked properly and were key in alerting tenants of the fire.
