Well, there's a shocker.  After Showtime's critical darling terrorism drama 'Homeland' swept this year's Emmys with wins for Claire Danes, Damian Lewis and the series itself as Outstanding Drama, was there any doubt that Carrie Matheson would continue to piece together terrorist plots in a third season?  But given the explosive turns that the series has taken lately, will the cast of the third season stay the same?  Where could Carrie and Brody go next?

'Homeland' fans jaws are likely still on the ground this afternoon following last night's shocking episode "New Car Smell," which saw a slow-burn plot to uncover evidence of Nicholas Brody's treason spiraling into a full-blown arrest.  Only four episodes into its sophomore season and 'Homeland' continues blowing us away, though now we know for certain that Showtime has renewed that national security thriller for a third season!

“The Emmy wins for Homeland have certainly set the stage for a great second season,” said Showtime president David Nevins. “The writers, cast and crew of continue to create a remarkably entertaining and suspenseful roller coaster ride, growing audiences week after week. We can’t wait for our viewers to experience what unfolds through the rest of season two.”

Of course, considering that last night's episode garnered the show's highest ratings to date at 1.75 million viewers, with the network still buzzing from 'Homeland's Emmy victories, we didn't exactly need solid intel to see this one coming.
