There is a plan to address the vertically challenged overpass in Dalhart.

At only 13 feet, 7 inches the overpass has seen it's share of close calls and stuck trucks.  After many years of discussion the short overpass may finally be fixed.

Union Pacific owns the bridge which carries railroad tracks.  The first idea was to build a bridge over the railroad.  Two railroads use the bridge and it is estimated it would cost the railroads a million dollars an hour to take the bridge out of service to construct the flyover.

TxDOT hired a consultant to find a solution.  Now instead of going over the bridge they plan to add 2 feet of clearance under it.  The new plan is estimated to cost $6 million as opposed to the $20 million estimate to go over the bridge.

The next step is to secure the funding for the project.
