Since 2007 they've been operating in Amarillo and not without controversy.  The only thing without doubt is there red light cameras have generated a lot of money for the city.

More red light cameras are on the way to Amarillo.  The city has renewed a 5-year contract with American Traffic Solutions to operate and administer the camera.  Since the cameras were first installed in 2007 the citations attributed to the program have raised over $4 million.

Some of the money goes to administer the program while the state and city split what is left.  The city's cut goes towards pedestrian and public safety programs, intersection improvement and traffic enforcement.
