A recent report from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement has released a report on the racial makeup of traffic stops in Amarillo.

The report finds that Amarillo police do not racially profile those detained in traffic stops with the overall population numbers close to the actual racial makeup of the city.

Amarillo police initiated nearly 26,000 traffic stops in 2014.  Of those stops, Caucasians were the most stopped demographic.  At nearly 60% of the population, Caucasians accounted for 54% of traffic stops.

Hispanics were seconds with a population of nearly 29% with nearly 35% of the stops.  African Americans make up nearly 7% of the population and were stopped at 9%.

The report found that the driver's race in any given traffic stop was known only 4% of the time.
