Potter County Grass Fire Caused By Firecracker

Potter County Fire Fighters have already extinguished one grass fire thanks to fireworks and it's only July 1st.

The holiday is upon us and some have already been celebrating by setting off fireworks.  Even with recent rains our area is still dry enough to ignite as at least one reveler has learned.

Yesterday Potter County fighters responded to a grass fire that was started by a firecracker that blew into bushes before it blew off.  When it exploded it started a grass fire.  Crews were able to quickly contain the conflagration.

It's important to remember to use fireworks in short and green grass, a plowed field or at least an area that is mowed down.  Avoid tall and dry grass.  And don't set off fireworks in windy conditions.
