Possible Tornado Causes Damage In Montana town

TWIN BRIDGES, Mont. (AP) — Strong winds and possibly a tornado caused severe damage in small southwestern Montana town, uprooting trees and blowing the roof off at least one building.

Madison County sheriff's spokesman Steve DiGiovanna says a National Weather Service representative was expected to visit Twin Bridges on Friday to determine if a tornado touched down during Thursday afternoon's storm.

He says some falling trees damaged historical buildings, including the museum, and the roof was ripped off a veterinary clinic outside of town. He says an airport hangar was destroyed, a trailer was crushed by falling trees, and a grandstand at the Madison County Fairgrounds was flipped over and destroyed.

DiGiovanna says someone took video of the storm and he witnessed what appeared to be a tornado funnel touching the ground.

The weather service reported 90 mph wind speeds in the area.
