Pet registration could soon be a reality in Amarillo.

Owning a pet in Amarillo could soon come with some extra costs.  The Amarillo Animal Management and and Welfare board has OK'd a proposed ordinance that would require pets to be registered once a year with proof of rabies vaccination.

The primary goals of the program is to count the pet population and reunited lost animals with their owners.

There are incentives for current pet owners.  It starts with $15 dollars to register your pet.  Owners will pay have of that if their pet is neutered.  Also an additional $2 can be saved if your pet is microchiped.
