Obamanation: Horse Slaughter For Human Consumption Now Legal In U.S.

On November 18th President Obama quietly signed into law a bill that once again makes slaughter of horses for human consumption legal in the United States.

Bill H2112 does a lot of things and one of those is funding the United States Department of Agriculture. Included in the law is wording that allows Americans to kill and eat horses.  Horse slaughter was previously prohibited due to no funding being available for inspection of horses in transit and at slaughterhouses.

The House version of the bill retained the de-funding language while the Senate version did not.  The result is it is now legal for slaughterhouses to slaughter horses for humans to eat.

President Obama made it a campaign promise to ban horse slaughter and exports of horses for human consumption.

It is estimated that now 120,000 to 200,000 horses per year could be killed for meat domestically.
