West Texas A&M will be using Kimbrough Stadium a bit longer than originally planned, the university announced yesterday.

Construction has been pushed back one year.  The new Buffalo Stadium will start going up after March 1, 2018 and open for the 2019 season.  The delay happened when new incoming President  Walter Wendler decided to reevaluate the plans.  He wanted to ensure both selling Kimbrough and building a new stadium was in the best interests of the university.  After completing his evaluation plans are now moving forward.

WT has decided to sell Kimbrough and the surrounding land to the Canyon Independent School District for a one-time payment of $500,000.

And some changes have been made to the new stadiums plan.  Now it won’t be on top of the track and soccer fields as originally planned.  It will replace one of the softball fields, the soccer field house and save $2-3 million in costs from the original plan.
