A recently passed law hopes to make working on the job less dangerous for TxDot workers.

Since 1938 more than 100 TxDot workers have been killed while constructing Texas roads.  A new law has been signed that will hopefully make things safer for workers in the state.

The new law requires drivers to mover over and slow down for TxDot workers and vehicles.  The requirement asks drivers to slow down in the presence of construction vehicles and to move over and slow down for workers as well.

If drivers are unable to switch lanes they are now required to go 20 miles an hour below the posted speed limit.

Violators of the law face a fine of $500.  The law goes into effect September 1, 2013.
