New Airport Construction Project Approved By City Commissioners

Rick Husband airport is going to go through another phase of expansion.

City Commissioners have approved a $4.2 million project.  The project has been on the table for some time but has finally been given the go ahead.

The project will see all the rental car companies moved to a central location and a new building.  The facility will be located on what is now the employee parking lot.

Funding for the project comes primarily from a rental car surcharge of $3 from every car rented at the airport.  On average that fee generates over $600,000 per year.

The project is expected to take a year to complete but no start date has been announced.
