On September 1st a new law took effect aimed at making life less dangerous for road workers.

It's called Move Over/Slow Down.  The law requires drivers to move over or slow down for stopped Texas Department of Transportation vehicles with flashing blue or amber lights.

According to the law when you approach a vehicle that is stopped and displaying the lights you are required to move out of the lane the vehicle is in and move to a lane as far away as possible.  If it isn't possible to change lanes you are asked to go twenty miles per hour below the posted speed limit.

Violators can be fined up to $2,000.
