Do things seem a little tense between you and your spouse right now? There may be a good reason: March has become the most popular month of the year to file for divorce.

Consumer legal site FindLaw reports searches for terms like “divorce,” “family law” and “child custody” jump more than 50 percent between December and January, reaching a peak in March — a trend that mirrors divorce filings across the country.

So why March and not, say, July?

Experts say reasons could include taxes (jointly filing as a married couple can be a money-saver), holiday affairs that have recently been discovered, and parents who stayed together just long enough for their kids to have one more family Christmas.
