Amarillo sits high on the preseason rankings.

The Texas High School Coaches Association has released its Preseason Regional Poll. Among local teams ranked are Amarillo High at #3 in 5A Region One, with fellow district members Randall and Canyon ranked 5th and 9th respectively.

Other teams ranked include Pampa at #9 in 4A Divison I, Perryton at #7 in 4A Division II, River Road is tied for #9 in 3A Division I, Canadian is 1st, Childress 6th and Spearman 7th in 3A Division II, Stratford #2 and Panhandle #6 in 2A Division I, while Wellington is 1st, Farwell 3rd, Memphis 6th, Vega #7 and Wheeler #10 in 2A Division II.

The Coaches Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of coaches at UIL schools. The panel is chosen from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the Texas High School Coaches Association their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 10 on their region. The poll is displayed with first-place votes in parentheses, records, points based on 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, and the team's ranking in last week's poll.
