A resolution passed at last night's Amarillo City Council meeting was the next step in the evolution of baseball in the area.

The weekly Tuesday night City Council meeting voted unanimously to include bringing an AA baseball team to Amarillo to play in the soon to be constructed downtown baseball stadium. A letter of intent for one team in being drafted.  Even though that team is not confirmed. The city awaits a reciprocal letter of intent from the team soon.

Even with these developments, the Council stopped short of authorizing construction to begin.  The Council plans to delay construction of the new facility until a lengthy contract is signed with a team.

Funding for the nearly $50 million project will come from a municipal bond, city contributions, hotel occupancy taxes, and perhaps $2 million from an Amarillo couple who would like the naming rights to the new baseball stadium.

In December the LGC voted to actively pursue an AA team.
