JK Rowling may have written her last words about Harry Potter, but that doesn’t mean she’s retiring.

The author’s new novel, ‘The Casual Vacancy,’ is set to drop Sept. 27.

Described by publisher Little Brown as “blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising,” the book is the first Rowling has written that’s aimed squarely at adults. The plot revolves around the small English town of Pagford, where all is not as idyllic as it seems. When a resident dies rather unexpectedly, it leaves an empty seat on the parish council, which soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has ever seen.

Back in February, when Rowling announced the book, she called the success of the Potter series a “gift” that gave her the “freedom to explore new territory.”
