As the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey continue to affect the Gulf Coast and Houston areas of Texas, many people have been asking “how can we help?” Although Harvey has been downgraded to a tropical storm, the rain and moderate winds will continue for days to come. The storm remains in a very favorable area for tropical development and is only moving a couple miles per hour through the region.

Over the next several weeks, pleas for help will come out of the affected region. Before you make any donations, please be sure that you are offering assistance through a reputable organization. As much as we hate to mention it, there will be some people trying to take advantage of this situation. Below, we have listed a few legit ways you can help. We will add more to this list as they come available.

American Red Cross

Help people affected by Hurricane Harvey by visiting, calling 1- 800-RED CROSS or texting the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from this disaster.

From Chris Young: “I’m pledging $100,000 to benefit the Red Cross in an effort to help everyone in Texas that has been affected by this hurricane. All donations will be routed through the Chris Young Foundation to distribute directly to Harvey relief through the Red Cross and other disaster relief organizations. I hope you will join me.”

Typically, diapers are not provided by disaster relief agencies. The Texas Diaper Bank is in need of cash and diaper donations to provide emergency diaper kits to the families that are being displaced due to the hurricane.

Humans are not the only ones displaced by the storm. Local animal shelters have had to evacuate and move their animals to other shelters. Funds for supplies are needed for the current animals in shelter care and more will be needed as lost and stranded pets are brought to shelters over the next few weeks.
