GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — Three people and a runaway horse have been hurt when a carriage crashed through a fence in Southeast Texas.

Galveston police are trying to determine what prompted Sunday's accident that left the driver and two passengers from Canada with minor injuries.

The Galveston County Daily News (http://bit.ly/1cfmgKn ) reported Monday that the driver had her dog along and the pet leaped from the carriage. The driver then jumped out after the dog.

Passenger Michelle Cote of Ottawa, who also jumped from the runaway carriage, says the wheel ran over the driver. The passenger's husband, Richard Cote, stayed in the carriage and tried to grab the reins but the horse ran through a picket fence.

The driver's name wasn't released. Authorities did not immediately update the status of the dog.
