Monday morning was a bit unsettling for those at Highland Park Elementary.

School officials arrived Monday morning to find the elementary school had been burglarized.  The break-in occurred early Sunday morning and was discovered by by cafeteria employees at around 6am.

Arriving students were sequestered while official ensured the burglar was not still on the premises.

The superintendent says the burglar broke in and took a nap in foyer for around five hours.  After waking up he made his way to the cafeteria and helped himself to some cereal and fruit roll ups.  Nothing else was taken.

A letter was sent home with students to make parents aware of the situation.
