Hear 2,088 Voices Sing “Bicycle Built For Two” at the Same Time [VIDEO]
Back in 1962, an IBM 704 became the first computer to sing when it was programmed to hum the melody of “Daisy Bell” (aka, Bicycle Built for Two) ’97 providing a bit of inspiration to Stanley Kubrick (and lending the song an unshakably creepy vibe ever since).
Picking up where the 60s IBM scientists left off, the Internet project “Bicycle Built for 2000″ used the online crowd sourcing marketplace Amazon Mechanical Turk to record 2,088 individual voices each singing a tiny part of “Daisy Bell.”
Then, these sound snippets were synthesized into a complete recording of the song ’97 lending a decidedly horrifying feel to a song that already wasn’t getting any favors (imagine 2,088 zombies crooning in time). Check it out below the jump.
