NSU Neo-Nazis Murder Trial: Day Ten

BERLIN (AP) — German police say they have detained five people and seized weapons and drugs in an investigation of alleged members of an Italian organized crime syndicate.

Police in the central state of Hesse said raids were conducted at 17 locations on Wednesday. Four Italians and a Moroccan were detained. Officials also seized cocaine, firearms, ammunition and an unspecified quantity of cash, among other evidence.

German authorities didn't identify the suspects.

Police say the raids were part of an investigation into several people suspected of belonging to Italy's 'ndrangheta crime syndicate and being involved in international weapons and drug trading.

They say they're also investigating suspected attempts to extort protection money from Italian businesses in Germany, as well as alleged fraud and tax evasion.
