General Motors’ Sales Fall 12% In January
DETROIT (AP) — General Motors says its U.S. sales fell 12 percent last month as harsh weather kept customers out of its dealerships in several regions.
Nearly all of GM's high-volume models showed sales declines in a month that featured a barrage of snowstorms and freezing temperatures.
Sales of the Chevy Silverado pickup, GM's top-selling vehicle, were down more than 18 percent. Malibu midsize car sales were off 25 percent.
GM says it sold just over 171,000 vehicles for the month.
The company blamed extreme weather in the South, Midwest and Northeast for the sales slump. But it expects sales to recover when the weather warms up. Like many analysts, GM is predicting total U.S. auto sales of 16 million to 16.5 million this year. That would be the best year since 2007.
