After several weeks of slowly creeping north, gas prices last week headed a bit south.

In Amarillo the price for a gallon of gas has fallen 4.8 cents per gallon to an average of $2.44 a gallon.  The national average actually increased 3.5 cents to $2.75 per gallon.

Gasoline prices had been increasing due to summer demand but with OPEC and specifically Saudi Arabia attempting as hard as possible to keep domestic drilling unprofitable, gas prices were destined to drop again.

Amarillo gas in almost a dollar lower than this time last year.  This year is shaping up to be to have the cheapest prices at the pump since 2009.
