Friday Night Murder-Suicide In Amarillo

Two shooting deaths on Friday night have been ruled an apparent murder-suicide.

Amarillo police were called to residence 500 block of SE 14 near downtown on a complaint of shots fired and a woman screaming just before midnight Friday.

An officer responding to the call saw a man leaving the area after pointing a gun at the patrolman.  The man disappeared and a shot was heard.

After other officers arrived the man, 38-year-old Joe Angel Martinez Jr. was found dead with a gunshot wound to his chest.  Upon investigating the residence authorities found 29-year-old Monica Barrientos deceased inside, also from a gunshot wound.

Authorities have ruled this a murder-suicide.
