Ford Posts Increase In Quarterly Profits

DETROIT (AP) — Ford Motor Co.'s U.S. sales rose 11 percent in July on strong demand for the newly redesigned Fiesta subcompact as well as the F-Series pickup.

Ford sold a total of 193,715 vehicles in July. It was the company's best July since 2006.

Pickup truck sales have been strong all year as contractors and other small businesses replace the trucks they held on to during the recession. F-Series truck sales rose 23 percent to 60,449, or one of every three vehicles Ford sold.

Sales of the tiny Fiesta were also up 89 percent as a newly redesigned Fiesta hit the market.

The Escape SUV, which is one of Ford's top sellers, was up 4 percent over last July.

Lincoln sales were flat, with the new MKZ sedan down 7 percent.
