Yes, with all this awesome rain you know people are itching to start shooting off fireworks.  Fireworks stands are already selling their products and I have already see some folks shooting them off, inside the city limits.  However, fireworks are still illegal inside the city limits.

This includes possession, manufacture, storage, sale and handling and use of fireworks inside the Amarillo City Limits.  Fireworks have been illegal in the city for the last 30 years and it hasn't changed this year.

If you are caught with fireworks inside the city limits you can face up to a $2,000 fine for each occurrence.

However, if you would like to have your fireworks safely disposed of the Fireworks Amnesty Program is available.  You can also have your small arms ammunition, primers, powders and propellents disposed of properly.  All you have to do is call the 24-hour number at 806-378-9092, and leave your name, number and address.  An officer will then be sent to pick up the items.

The Amarillo Police Department and Fire Marshal’s Office will have strict enforcement on any violation found within the city limits. The Police Department will have extra officers on duty through directed patrol as well as the additional officers on hand at the public display at John Stiff Park.

Last year the Amarillo Police Department issued 27 citations last year for fireworks violations.

You can still enjoy the fireworks displays in Amarillo and Canyon on the 4th of July.
