Why Did Tennessee Firefighters Let a Home Burn? [VIDEO]

About a year ago, firefighters in South Fulton, Tennessee made national headlines when they stood idly by and watched a house burn because the homeowner hadn’t paid a $75 “fire subscription fee” to the city.

And now it’s happened again.

On Monday, yet another home burned to the ground for the same reason, but South Fulton Mayor David Crocker was unrepentant, saying that if an exception is made for one house, no one will pay the fee at all.

“There’s no way to go to every fire and keep up the manpower, the equipment, and … the funding for the fire department,” he said. “After the last situation, I would hope that everybody would be well aware of the rural fire fees.”

Fortunately, no one was hurt. The homeowners, who had no insurance, are currently staying at a hotel, courtesy of the Red Cross.
