When it comes to fighting crime in Amarillo it takes the effort of two counties to wage it.  But the types of crimes are different between the two counties, even inside the city limits.

Overall, crime rates are down 5%.  But the more frequent crimes differ from county to county

Potter County tends to have more violent crimes, like drive by shootings and homicides.  Randall County tends to have more property crime.

The APD reports burglary is up 2.2% from 2011.

To combat these issues both city and county police departments have increase patrols in trouble prone areas.
