According to ESPN, the Philadelphia Eagles and quarterback Michael Vick have agreed to a 1-year deal for the coming 2013 season.

It was widely speculated that with Vick scheduled to earn $16 million in 2013 that the time had come to cut the oft-injured quarterback.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports “Vick could make as much as $10 million next season under the one-year deal, according to a league source.”

Vick has had an uneven career with the Eagles. He was originally brought on board by former coach Andy Reid shortly after he completed his sentence in conjunction with a federal dogfighting case. He played well enough early on to earn an extension and a big raise.

However, last season was marked by injuries and inconsistency. He eventually gave way to rookie Nick Foles, although Vick did appear in the season finale against the Giants, replacing the injured Foles.

What Vick has essentially done is sign on for an audition under new head coach Chip Kelly. Vick’s mobility and talent would seem to be a perfect fit for Kelly’s fast-moving pistol offensive. Vick just needs to be able to stay healthy for a full 16-game season.
