The police chief in Dumas has resigned after a city commissioner's meeting last night.

Dale Alwan has been the police chief in Dumas for 17 years.  An executive session was held Monday night to determine the future of the position in the city.  After holding a public meeting the executive session was closed to the public.  Following that meeting it was announced Alwan had given the commission his resignation and it was accepted.

Little has been disclosed for the need for a change other than 'it was time' to make the change.

Alwan will stay on with the city for the next 10 months as a consultant to help the interim chief and the new chief as needed.
