Drug Dealing Ex-East Texas Deputy Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison

TYLER, Texas (AP) — A former East Texas sheriff's deputy who dealt drugs while on duty has been sentenced to six years in federal prison.

Prosecutors in Tyler on Wednesday announced the punishment for 39-year-old Kimbrick Bernard Jones.

Jones worked as a Smith County sheriff's deputy until being fired after his arrest last July on two counts of drug distribution. Jones in October pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribution of methamphetamine and crack cocaine.

Investigators found illegal drugs in the deputy's patrol car.

Jones, who'd been employed by the sheriff's department in Tyler for about 10 years, was sentenced Tuesday.
