MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 25, 2014--Residents of Manhattan will no longer need to make a trip to the suburbs to enjoy some of America’s most iconic treats. The Dairy Queen® system, part of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A and BRK.B), announced its official entry into New York City with the scheduled opening of its Manhattan restaurant this spring. Located at 54 West 14th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, this new restaurant will create more than 50 jobs on a continuous basis and will be the first ever two-story DQ Grill & Chill® restaurant in the country.

“For nearly 75 years, the Dairy Queen system has been serving fans in more than 6,400 locations throughout 27 countries. Now, we are bringing the world famous Blizzard® Treat, the cone with the signature curl on top, and delicious Orange Julius® beverages to our fans in New York City,” said John Gainor, president and CEO for International Dairy Queen Corporation (IDQ).

LSQ Foods has signed a multi-unit agreement and will operate the Manhattan location. The company plans to aggressively expand in Manhattan with the DQ® brand.

The two-story, 2,500 square-foot Manhattan DQ Grill & Chill restaurant will seat more than 100 and will offer a full food and treat menu including $5 Buck Lunch, the only value meal in the quick-service restaurant industry that comes with a sundae. Traditional and indulgent Dairy Queen soft serve treats that everybody knows and loves are also on the menu, such as signature Blizzard Treats, DQ Cakes and cones as well as Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies and Orange Julius Light Smoothies.

In 2013, the Dairy Queen system opened two DQ Grill & Chill locations just outside Manhattan, one in Massapequa and one in the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.
